In that case you should raise the memory limit to something quite high. I'd suggest to start with 2GB and increment this to 2.5 and 3 GB if it doesn't work yet. That's because the Java VM pre-allocates a lot of memory. With cgroup support this is not an issue, but without you have to add that overhead to the memory limit. Then you also have to change the value of MEMRESERVED in the java compile script executable you use (java_javac_detect by default). > > If you're trying to enable cgroups, then make sure to follow the instructions in the administrators manual. To what size did you raise the memory limit? Try to raise it at least to 2GB if you're not using Linux cgroups. Unfortunately, the way that memory is reserved by the JVM and counted (using resource limits) by Linux often requires such huge amounts. Therefore we strongly recommend using cgroups: that measures only memory really used by the JVM and requires more reasonable overhead. Changes from Munich
by Stefan Toman 06 Mar '16

06 Mar '16

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Dear DOMjudge developers, first of all thank you for writing DOMjudge. We are using it at TU München, Germany, for many courses and competitions. Having more than 100 contests and 50.000 submissions by 1000 teams we changed many parts of the system and created a fork of your project. We would like to contribute our changes to DOMjudge if you are interested in them. You can see our website for instance at https://judge.in.tum.de/conpra (other sections are available at the top left corner of every page). The sources we use are available at https://git-judge.in.tum.de/icpc/tumjudge. We will create merge requests in case you are interested in our changes. We would do some things a little different when we don't work in our fork. For instance, we created new css and javascript files to avoid conflict when merging your changes. These are the main features we added to the system: * a modern layout based on bootstrap with a nicer menu bar and form controls * teams can also view, download and edit their submissions as jury members can do it already * an overview of points throughout all contests a team participated in, grouped by similar contest names * bonus points can be awarded to teams for individual problems and contests * the statistics page generates some LaTeX commands to include detailed statistics into solution slides * problems have additional fields author, difficulty, topic and source and there are filters for these fields * write access to user and team accounts can be restricted for admins (We run several DOMjudge instances for several courses since we don't want lecturers of different courses to adjust the system as they need it. User accounts are shared via a MySQL replication, which makes user data read-only for all but one instance, all other data, including roles, is not shared.) * links in the menu are customizable in the settings * scoreboards can be shuffled in case you don't want to reveal which problems were solved (see contest 6 at the link given above for an example) * the judge instances are integrated into our website, the news system and the account system of the university (probably nothing that somebody else would need) We also created a framework to create random test data for problems from some seeds. This allows us to run failing submissions of teams on small random inputs until we find one that makes their submission fail. That way, we usually find much smaller inputs that are easier to debug. These scripts can be called from the jury backend and the output is also included into the backend. We hope there are some changes that may be interesting for you. If this is the case please tell us. We can tell you more about what we did there and would like to contribute the corresponding changes. moving to a PHP framework
by Jaap Eldering 05 Feb '16

05 Feb '16

Hello all, During/after the hackathon of 24 January the issue was raised that the codebase of DOMjudge is getting more and more complex and that it would be a good plan to move to a PHP framework to separate code and HTML layout via templating and using an ORM to abstract away the database. The discussion was initiated in a github issue here: https://github.com/DOMjudge/domjudge/issues/198 and I'm attending everyone here to it. If you have any experience with PHP frameworks such as Symfony, Laravel, or others, feel free to chime in, or even help with some initial testing to determine which framework to choose. Jaap

Output limit
by Br. Anand Shenoi 19 Dec '15

19 Dec '15

Hi All, What is the difference between the output limit in the global settings and that in the problem wise setting? When we set the Output limit for a specific problem, it gives TLE. If the output limit for the same problem is not set, it never exits from the memory. the status shows "JUDGING". It means, the global output limit is not being considered by DOM. Can anyone help please?

Hi Jaap. There is a situation. Suppose if a solution has been submitted, but that solutions is not even passing the first test case and the program doesn't terminate. Usually it should be taken care of by DOMjudge right? Why is it not giving Wrong Answer or TLE. Here is the code: #include <stdio.h> #include <math.h> long long int gcd(long long int a, long long int b) { // base case if (b==0) {return a;} else {return gcd(b,a % b);} } long long int PowerSet(int *set, int set_size) { long long int pow_set_size = pow(2, set_size); long long int counter, j; long long int first=0,result=1; long long int proresult=1; for(counter = 0; counter < pow_set_size; counter++) { for(j = 0; j < set_size; j++) { if(counter & (1<<j)) { if(first==0) { //printf("\nFIRST%dFIRST\n",set[j]); result=set[j]; } printf("%d ", set[j]); first++; result=gcd(result, set[j]); } } first=0;proresult=(proresult%1000000007*result%1000000007)%1000000007; printf(" GCD %lld",result);printf("\n"); } return proresult; } int main() { int t=0,T; scanf("%d",&T); while(t<T) { int n,i,a[100002]; long long int ans; scanf("%d",&n); for(i=0;i<n;i++) { scanf("%d",&a[i]); } ans=PowerSet(a, n); printf("%lld\n",ans%1000000007); t++; } return 0; }

Time specific for a problem & Global time limit
by Br. Anand Shenoi 14 Dec '15

14 Dec '15

Guys, A doubt: There is a "time limit" for each problem. There is a "time limit overshoot" in Configuration Settings. Does it mean that if we set the "time limit overshoot" as more than the maximum time limit for one of the problems in the contest, it will affect the others with the lower time limit? For example: Contest 1 has 5 problems 4 problems have 1 sec time limit. Rest 4 has 4 sec time limit. And let us say one of the submissions for 1 sec problem set goes into infinite loop. Will the problem exit as per 1 sec time limit for that problem or will I wait for the 4 sec global "time limit overshoot"?

I would like to know if this is possible. In that case, can we have the editor program insert the source code into the db directly?

Hello Thijs, I saw the code editor (https://ace.c9.io/#nav=about) But couldn’t find an option on how to invoke it in DOMjudge (not sure if it is there). I meant to have compiling and running online. There are some contest management systems like CodeChef.com, HackerRank.com etc where the compilation and execution can be done through this same editor. You could use the ACE editor already included in DOMjudge and indeed insert to the DB fron there (use the submit_solution function). I believe that this is not part of DOMjudge yet is that it raised workflow questions. How would the team compile and run the program to test it? Or would they submit it untested? What are your ideas about this? Cheers, Thijs

Creating team and user accounts in batch mode
by Howard Cheng 16 Nov '15

Hi, I would like to create teams and user accounts in batch (e.g. from a spreadsheet). I'm using DOMjudge 4.0.5 and I see that there is an "Import / export" option, but I can't find much documentation on this. I have also somewhat successfully crafted my own SQL statements to insert tuples into the tables directly, but the problem is that I have to ask for the current id for the auto_increment fields of various tables and match them up. It's not a big deal, but if there is an easier option then I would like to know about it. Thanks. Judgehost Shared Directories?
by Marc Furon 13 Nov '15

13 Nov '15

I will be running several judgehosts in an environment where the OS image is coming from a flash drive. NFS is also available to the contest server. It looks like several of the judgehost directories (judgings, log, run, and tmp) create sub-directories by hostname and could therefore be shared over NFS. Is there any documentation that describes the best practices for doing that? I read through the administration manual but didn't see anything specifically addressing that topic. Marc

Sample Data for Contestants?
by Marc Furon 12 Nov '15

12 Nov '15

Greetings! Perhaps I'm mistaken...but isn't there a way for contestants to download the input and output files marked "sample" for a given file from inside DOMjudge? I thought this was possible but I don't see how, and I looked through the documentation. One other question, if someone knows: is the information about the contest start time and end time available inside the renderScoreBoardTable function? I figured out how to do everything else I want with the scoreboard but there is one thing I want to do once the contest is half over. It looks like the information might be in the $cdata variable--is there a description of the internal data structures somewhere? Our contest is Saturday and it looks like things are coming together...this is the first year I have been delving deep into DOMjudge, and I am impressed with what I have found. Thanks to the team for developing and maintaining the system. Marc

No, sorry, that's not relevant for compiler errors. > here is the log : [...] > > the full log is attached. > thx Unfortunately the logs don't show any useful errors. Could you please look on the domjudge-live image under /var/lib/domjudge/judgings/domjudge-live-0/endpoint-default There should be subdirectories of the form cX-sYY-jZZ for each submission/judging there. Check in the webinterface what one of the java compiler-errror's submission and judging ID is and please send a zip file of that directory. The files compile.{out, tmp, meta} may contain some clues as to what goes wrong. Scoreboard Timing?
by Marc Furon 02 Nov '15

02 Nov '15

Hello! We are working on re-implementing a couple of changes we made to a earlier version on DOMjudge in Southern California. One of the changes is to time to the second instead of the minute. It looks to me like the scorecache_ tables are what is used to build the scoreboard displays for the public and the jury. I see the time is currently stored in those tables in minutes, but it also looks like there is one function (calcScoreRow) that populates the table, and it is doing the division by 60 to get minutes. If the scorecache_ tables are not used for anything else, I see no reason why I couldn't change that function in order to get seconds. Is my understanding correct? Marc

DOMjudge 5.0.1 and Java in "chroot" (Fedora 22 64-bit)
by Marc Furon 25 Oct '15

25 Oct '15

Greetings! I am configuring DOMjudge 5.0.1 in a Fedora 22 64-bit environment. Most things seem to be working. I am trying to get Oracle Java 8u60 to run correctly in a "chroot" environment. I built the chroot directory more-or-less manually, installing Java into it (under /opt) and copying the necessary library files. I also copied /bin/bash into the chroot area along with its necessary library, and linked sh to bash. I edited the java_javac_detect script to run /opt/java/bin/java as "program". If I run a chroot command from the shell, bash starts, and I can run "/opt/java/bin/java -version". It complains about the lack of a monotonic clock but otherwise seems to run. I then tried to run the "Hello World" tests. C and C++ work fine. Java fails. I went into the execution directory and the program.err file says that it could not exec /opt/java/bin/java. Has anyone tried to get this kind of configuration running? Any ideas about how to best configure Java in this environment? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Marc

DOMjudge (automatic) team logins
by kjohns07 25 Oct '15

25 Oct '15

Hey everyone, I was wondering how other people handle logging teams in to domjudge during their competitions? We’ve always have volunteers go around to the team computers and manually log them in before the contest started, but I’ve always found that to be a bit tedious. We never liked the idea of giving the teams their own passwords since they could easily share them with each other. Since we control the contest environment, I found a way to use a local squid proxy to log teams in automatically, without revealing the credentials to the team. I thought I’d share this since someone else might be interested. You can read about it here: http://icpc-environment.github.io/2015/10/24/domjudge-autologin.html I don’t know if there is any interest in merging a feature like this into the main DOMjudge tree though, any thoughts? It’s a relatively small patch, but it’s such a narrow use case I don’t know if it’s worth supporting generally. -Keith Johnson US Southeast Region

Hi, I need a little help with the compare files. I am sending the files I am using so you can understand it bette. It is compiling, but when it starting running it freezes. I don’t know yet what is the problem. I think it is not reading the input. I tested it using our Queue manager (Torque) since we are using on a cluster. The compile phase is ok. Now I need to create the compare file and try to understand why it is freezing. Something maybe wrong with my code. So it prints the ordered vector and the speedup, I need to check the result with the out file and check if the speedup if greater than 1. Thank You. -- Leandro Negri Zanotto
